I've had similar streaming issues with other media apps, and keeping both the app and device updated often improves overall stability. For entertainment after troubleshooting, I usually switch to the DixMax APK app since it offers a simple interface and multiple streaming sources, making it easy to relax once the connection is working properly.

Hello,
A few ideas and a few questions!

AP Firmware version?
Are the devices static or roaming through the building when on calls? Additionally if you look at a client in client360 can you see it roam at the approx time of a call dropping?
Presuming these are mobiles that are connected to the WiFi, do you know what they're connected to (2.4 or 5GHz)? - may be worth changing to 5GHz only if possible to see if that makes a difference.

Do you have any load balancing or band steering enabled in radio profiles? Any high utilisation of APs/Airtime/Interference observed?

Hello,

Thanks for taking the time. I'm a librarian, primarily, so pardon my ignorance on some of these issues. The firmware says current, but this is listed as well:

IQ Engine 10.5r3 build-278650

I'll check the client roaming next time there is a wi-fi call. I thought that may be the case, but since a lot of calls aren't even making it to the device(straight to VM), I was hesitant to think this was the case.

I'll disable 2.4ghz to see if it makes a difference, but the devices should be on 5Ghz.

No particularly high utilization during these time periods, it often happens before we open to the public so it's just about 10 staff members. We enabled QoS settings and prioritized voice traffic. It seemed to have made a small difference, but not enough to have a meaningful impact. And since the issues are intermittent it is hard to tell whether it even made a small difference.

Thanks for your thoughts and I'll definitely keep a look at the roaming issue/disabling the 2.4ghz band.

I use a Galaxy S9 and I have a colleague running android as well with issues.

The WiFi works mostly fine, other than some issues when staff play games during their breaks. Our wired VoIP works flawlessly.

I'm not sure how to check for interference when roaming. I'm a bit new to the WiFi world.

Thanks for your help and thoughts!

Hi there,

It sounds like you’ve done a thorough job troubleshooting the AP230s and prioritizing voice traffic. Since your wired phones are fine, it seems the issue is isolated to Wi-Fi calling on those APs. A couple of additional things you could try:

Check for AP firmware updates – Sometimes Wi-Fi calling instability is fixed in recent firmware patches.

Band steering and load balancing – Make sure the devices aren’t switching excessively between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, which can drop calls.

Device-specific settings – Some phones handle Wi-Fi calling better with certain VoIP configurations enabled.

Also, for teams needing remote communication solutions while troubleshooting hardware issues, I found tools like Truecaller apk useful for managing call reliability and seeing incoming call quality on different devices. It’s not a direct fix for APs, but it can help monitor call behavior across multiple phones.

A lot of people forget to not only have a VLAN for VoIP, but to configure the network switch for voice. I know on an HP, I just have (within config) to put in "voice" command... just putting this out there as so many people forget it.. That command does a lot of QoS and needs to be in the VLAN for VoIP.

DeVoiD

Wi-Fi calling issues can be frustrating, especially when the network seems stable otherwise. Besides checking roaming, QoS, and signal strength, I also like to test with different apps to rule out device-specific problems. For entertainment testing after network changes, I've found the DixMax apks useful for streaming since it quickly reveals whether the connection remains stable during continuous playback. It can help confirm if the issue is limited to Wi-Fi calling or affects other real-time services as well. Hope you get it resolved soon!

Wi-Fi calling problems can be tricky because everything else on the network may appear to work normally. Along with checking roaming, QoS, and signal strength, it's worth testing different web-based tools to confirm the connection stays stable. Even something simple like using a picker wheel online can help verify that pages load smoothly and respond consistently while you're moving around the coverage area. Hopefully you identify the root cause soon!

While troubleshooting Wi-Fi calling issues—such as adjusting Quality of Service (QoS), enabling 802.11r/k/v (Voice Enterprise), and verifying firewall/SIP ALG settings—it's worth noting that network congestion from non-work traffic can sometimes play a role. When employees use break time to stream media or browse image-heavy creative sites, background bandwidth usage can spike. For instance, staff members browsing custom costume gallery updates or checking whether an artist's fursuit comission open can unknowingly clog Wi-Fi airtime if high-resolution media isn't throttled or separated onto a guest VLAN. Setting up dedicated SSIDs with isolated rate limits often helps prevent these personal browsing habits from impacting critical VoIP traffic.

Wi-Fi Calling performance can depend on several factors beyond signal strength. I've found that checking QoS settings, roaming behavior, DNS responsiveness, and ensuring the phone is using the latest firmware can make a noticeable difference. It's also helpful to compare performance on different access points to determine whether the issue is network-wide or limited to a specific location. Hopefully these suggestions help narrow down the cause.

I've had similar streaming issues with other media apps, and keeping both the app and device updated often improves overall stability. For entertainment after troubleshooting, I usually switch to the DixMax APK app since it offers a simple interface and multiple streaming sources, making it easy to relax once the connection is working properly.

When troubleshooting network problems with several possible causes, I sometimes use an online spinning wheel to randomly choose which fix to test first—whether it's restarting the router, toggling Wi-Fi Calling, resetting network settings, or checking QoS. It sounds fun, but it also keeps the troubleshooting process organized and unbiased.

Network stability is important for more than just calls. I've noticed that Roblox users running tools like DeltaHack.org also benefit from a reliable Wi-Fi connection because interruptions can affect script execution and the overall gameplay experience. Fixing the underlying network issue first often saves a lot of frustration later.
