Hello Extreme Networks Community,
We are experiencing an issue with our Extreme Access Point AP3000 after switching between two different OS versions. The AP is no longer accessible via the web interface, and while initially powered through PoE, the LED eventually goes off after a while, suggesting the device may be stuck between the two OSs.
When checking in ExtremeCloud IQ, the AP appears under "Managed Devices," but there is no MAC address or OS version listed—only the serial number and model are displayed.
Has anyone encountered this issue before, or have any suggestions on how to resolve it? Any guidance on how to restore the AP or access it would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance

Hello Christoph, I am sorry I meant to mention an issue with the AP3000 and not AP300 series.

To answer your question, the AP seemed to stop in a state between two OSs (changing from CloudIQ Engine to WING using ExtremeCloud IQ Pilot) so it couldn't pull an IP address and we couldn't access it using SSH or console (lack of console cable at the moment).

Hello,

We are not working with a controller. We want to make it work on standalone mode, since we have small resources for a testing lab.

We are attempting to onboard it on cloud

Hello Meriem,

If you look on the back of the AP at the label, you will see the APIPA IP address (169.254.x.x). Change your computer IP address to an APIPA IP address very close to the one on the label (make sure you use /16 subnet so 255.255.0.0). Plug the laptop into the same switch powering up the AP and try pinging it. Are you successful?

Have you tried resetting the AP by pressing down the reset button for 10 seconds?

The thing is, we don't know what mode the AP is in, if in Cloud or WiNG distributed then it should have pulled an IP address, however if in Centralized mode then it may not. We just need to get in there to change the operational mode unless the AP is bricked and not working then you'll have to RMA it.

BR,

Hello Christoph,

We have successfully accessed the AP via SSH. Please find the attached screenshots for reference.

Could you kindly guide us on the next steps to make the AP functional again or to fix it to an appropriate operating system? Additionally, is there a way (command line) to back up and preserve the current configurations and settings on the AP to ensure that no progress is lost during the recovery process?

Hello @Mariem,

The AP is in WiNG Distributed operational mode for some reason. Here's an article with steps to resolve this (please go straight to step 3a): https://extreme-networks.my.site.com/ExtrArticleDetail?an=000092794

In short, from the CLI run the following command after which the AP should reboot into cloud operational mode:

>en
#operational-mode ?
  centralized Centralized operational mode
  xiq-cloud Xiq cloud operational mode
