topic EWC firmware upload via http needed in ExtremeWireless (Identifi)

Bringing new firmware to customers EWCs is very time-killing because always ftp server is needed.

Nearly all other commercial software systems providing a http interface for upload configuration and download current configuration. This should be default also on Extremes EWC.

In EWC this feature is missed since a long time and it would be needed.

If some agree with me suggestion - like this article.

Matthias,
you can use SCP as well for Software updates on the EWC.
This can also be done per Inventory Manager. Which use the script SCP function.
An Software update via HTTPs file transfer can be added as Feature Request.
Yes, it is a good feature request. Although via ExtremeManagement the software update supported by drag-n-drop/upload from local pc function (see the Firmware secrion under Devices in ExtremeManagement)

Not an option for me...

1) EMC isn't free = not every customer has one
2) why should I load the software to EMC so I'd load it to the controller in another step.... sure if I've 100 EWCs in the customer network that is a nice feature but unfortunately I don't have customers with that kind of infrastructure. For just a controlller pair it's easier to load it directly.
Or, if you are using a physical box (even a VM), put the image on a USB drive. I have done that in the past.

What i am wondering is that the half of the feature already exists - download of tech-support file! If development would enhance this feature with an upload mechanism all the work is done.

Software Updates or backups are easy than as on every other computer system.

That what 's i am wondering so much.

But maybe it is christmas time and development endow me (and all other ewc customers) that function ;-))
Back in the good old days  it was possible to directly SFTP/FTP via a free app like CoreFTP into the controller and upload the software in the /var/controller/images directory.

I can't remember why that "function" was removed but I miss that feature a lot..... it was soooo easy to move SW via remote to the controller.
