topic 7522 - 'survey' mode without a controller in ExtremeWireless (WiNG)

Hello

I've been tasked with a strange job that I'm not sure is possible.

We're a predominately Cisco house, however one of our customers are moving to Extreme wireless and have asked us to run the survey for them. The AM said "sure absolutely" without doing any research whatsoever and now I have a brand new 7522i AP sitting on my desk wanting to be put into 'survey mode'.

My first google search brought me to here:

https://extremeportal.force.com/ExtrArticleDetail?an=000074210

So I know this isn't technically supported.

I was wondering if there's any way to traverse this so that I can get the AP to broadcast an SSID. I'm well aware this sounds ridiculous as I'm basically asking if there's a way to do a thing that has been explicitly stated as not possible.

I've had a poke around in the CLI already without finding anything obvious but I did see the option of turning the AP into a virtual controller.

So, is it possible to either trick the AP into registering itself, or have it as a VC but still broadcasting an SSID?

I suppose follow up questions would be are there any further requirements to this other than the base firmware image that it came with?

Many thanks

Hey,

this AP isn't from the IdentiFi prodcut familiy (it's a WiNG AP) so the article doesn't apply.

Here the AP installation guide which should allow you to configure a SSID for the survey.

Thank you Ronald, I didn't realise that was for a different range.

I've got it broadcasting now so all is well, much appreciated.
