All fabric I/O modules are used in the S1, S4, S6, or S8 Chassis. They are not compatible with the S3 chassis. There are red tabs on the fabric modules for identification, and these need to be inserted into the red marked slots in the chassis (&lt;A href="http://bit.ly/18kWxRZ" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener"&gt;12453&lt;/A&gt;). They are not compatible in other I/O module type slots and vice versa. The chassis slots are also keyed in such a manner that a fabric module will not install in an access slot and vice versa. &lt;BR /&gt;
&lt;BR /&gt;
A minimum of one fabric I/O module is needed per chassis. In an S1, there is only one fabric I/O slot. For other chassis types a second installed fabric will increase throughput. A second fabric I/O module that fails will allow the chassis to operate at half the fabric capacity. In an S6 or S8, there are three fabric I/O slots. Three fabric I/O modules installed allows full redundancy with no throughput degradation if one of the fabric modules has failed or is removed. &lt;BR /&gt;
&lt;BR /&gt;
S150/S155 Class Distribution/Core fabrics offer higher throughput than S130 Class Access fabrics, and are recommended for high performance installs where distribution/core level I/O modules are used. &lt;BR /&gt;
&lt;BR /&gt;
If multiple-class fabrics are present in a chassis, the feature capability (though not the hardware performance) of all fabrics is reduced to the features of the lowest-class fabric present. This most commonly can affect licensing requirements (&lt;A href="http://bit.ly/1bZ0AT3" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener"&gt;15003&lt;/A&gt;) for higher-end features. &lt;BR /&gt;

Note that the Jumbo frame limitation as outlined in the release notes 'Known Restrictions and Limitations' section ("The S130 Class of blades supports Jumbo Frames on a maximum of 12 ports simultaneously. These ports can be any combination of the fixed 48 ports found on the module.") remains confined to S130 Class fabrics/modules, regardless of the possible presence of other classes in the chassis.</description>
