Add/update a custom update message to the workflow device grid

Hi,

When running a workflow with multiple devices, is there a way to send a status message to the "message" field using code in my activity, or set the status in the status field shown in the screen capture below? I know I can raise an error and that will set the status to "FAILED" but do I have control over that message. I can use it to display a use summary or customs tatus message that gives me more detail per switch.
