Hello Experts,

I see below two routes v6 on the switch, I did not configure them but it's there even after wiping the config.

extreme01# show ipv6 route

IPv6 Routing Table for VRF "default-vrf"

Total number of IPv6 routes: 2

'[x/y]' denotes [preference/metric]

fe80::/10, attached

     via ::, , [0/0], 3d0h, local

ff00::/8, attached

     via ::, Null0, [0/0], 3d0h, local

What is the use of it?

Is this route will be the same across all VDX switches or different Ipv6 subnet for every VDX?

Hello Pavan,

  • fe80::/10 is for the local link
  • ff00::/8   is for all multicast. This is sent to null0, since the VDX don't support ipv6 multicast.

This is the same for all IPv6 protocol.
