Does extreme x670-g2 support pvst protocol?

At one of the customer site, I need to migrate 2 nos of cisco 6500 series routers to 2 nos of extreme x670-g2.

Existing customer network is configured with spanning tree protocol PVST. So does extreme x670-g2 support pvst protocol? If not then for this migration do I need to change spanning tree protocol to pvst+ in all the switches in network?

Hi,

It does support PVST+, per EXOS datasheet: “PVST+, Per VLAN STP (802.1Q interoperable)”

For further details on this interoperability, you might be interested to walk through STP chapter of EXOS User Guide: https://documentation.extremenetworks.com/exos_30.6/downloads/EXOS_User_Guide_30_6.pdf

Hope that helps,

Tomasz

So in my case if I change downlink L2 Cisco switches from pvst to pvst+ will the communicate properly with extreme L3 switches configured with pvst+ ?

As in existing configuration vlan 1 is used for management purpose. So will the traffic remain untagged or tagged when it reaches to extreme L3 switch.

Overall please confirm will this setup work or do we need to change vlan 1 to some other vlan to avoid native vlan issue?

We do support PVST+, but there’s a very big caveat. The native vlan portion is proprietary to Cisco, so we can’t do an untagged vlan in PVST+.

Does PVST+ in L3 x670-g2 switches & PVST in L2 Cisco switches will communicate?
