iPerf3 Throughput testing

iPerf3 Throughput testing

Hi community, dear @Sam Pirok

I am doing some testing with iPerf3 and i am surprised about the results I'm seeing.

If I test with Gigabit cabling, from Host to AP I get good results the other way around it looks less great (see Screenshots).
Whats the explanation for this beaviour? If i test AP to AP the results are simular low ~200 Mbps

Hi Andi

There are many factors to wireless performance.   Please review this article and see if it helps: https://extremeportal.force.com/ExtrArticleDetail?an=000079922

If you need more help we'd need to understand a lot more detail on your testing, including AP configuration, client capabilities etc.

Thanks for the link @Gareth Mitchell, I actually didn't  want to test the performance over the air. Just the wired connection, i thought i may include some iPerf Wired testing for all APs to ensure they are all connected with proper Gigabit cabling. Let me collect some more data and come back to the Hub with my findings. Thanks for your support!

@a.huerzeler, any news? I just did some iperf3 testing from several of my access points, and I'm seeing mixed results. Curious what is going on here.
@Sam Pirok any idea why I would be seeing such low throughput on the 550,250,&230, but not on the 650? These are all Cat6a cabling patched into HP/Aruba gigabit switches.

@a.huerzeler Could you get a packet capture showing the wired traffic for a minute for the host to AP and then a separate one for AP to host? We'd like to get a look at the traffic coming through, to see if that gives us any idea as to why the speeds would be so different. Also could you tell me how many VLANs this network would be using?

@w1f1n00b could we also get a couple packet captures from you, one from one of the slower APs and one from the 650 for comparison? If you could also send tech data for the same APs you use to get the packet captures, that would help as well.

Please feel free to send the data directly to me at community@extremenetworks.com.
