Solution
In a Matrix E7 (6C107) chassis, these are the AC power supply requirements:
  • With any combination of 1st/2nd/3rd Generation switches and/or not exceeding five Matrix N-Series DFEs present, one 6C207-1 (1200 watt) power supply will provide sufficient non-redundant power. See 5181 for more.
  • With any combination of 1st/2nd/3rd Generation switches and/or any number of Matrix N-Series DFEs present, one 6C207-3 (1600 Watt) power supply will provide sufficient non-redundant power. See 5181 for more.
For fully redundant power configurations which tolerate the failure of one power supply, use two of the indicated power supplies rather than one.

The 6C207-3 power supply (one or two) is the only option for powering a 7C107 (Matrix N7) chassis.

A fully loaded 6C207-3 power supply draws 22 amps at 120 volts - more than a 20-amp circuit would be able to provide. Given the logistics necessary to provide a 30A (30-amp) circuit, a dual-input design was deemed to be more sensible. In order to activate a 6C207-3 power supply, both inputs need to be connected.

On 120-volt power systems, for each power supply one of the two cables draws up to 10A and the other draws up to 12A, for a total potential draw of 22A. The cables provided for this purpose have a maximum rating of 20A. To prevent overdrawing the circuit and blowing the circuit breaker, each input needs to be connected to at least a dedicated 120V 15A circuit breaker - for a total of four separate 15A circuit breakers servicing a single chassis. You may alternately opt to use two 30A circuit breakers, or one 30A and two 15A circuit breakers.

On 240-volt power systems, this same argument would apply but with half the amperage for the same current draw (Volts x Amps = Watts). The cables provided for this purpose have a maximum rating of 10A, with an anticipated 6A maximum draw. Four separate 240V 10A circuit breakers servicing a single chassis would generally be necessary. However, if 240V 30A circuits are available, then all four inputs can be connected to the same circuit breaker without overloading it - but the best setup is always a separate circuit breaker for each input, for redundancy purposes.

For use in North America, power cable part# 5601313-U1 (included) terminates in IEC C13 and NEMA 5-15P plugs, compatible with a 6C207-3 and a NEMA 5-15R or 5-20R 120-volt receptacle.
For use in North America, power cable part# 5601013-U2 (purchased separately) terminates in IEC C13 and NEMA 6-15P plugs, compatible with a 6C207-3 and a NEMA 6-15R or 6-20R 240-volt receptacle.
For use outside North America, the correct power cables for the install location are included with each 6C207-3 purchased.
