I'm new to AeroHive and we're installing 700+ APs in our new 10 story HQ. So far we've determined the following.
Each floor will have a separate /24 subnet for ap management. and broadcast the same WLANs. The VLAN associated to the WLAN will be different on each floor. How would you go about setting this up in HiveManager?
For Example
Floor1:
Management: VLAN 1
WLAN 1: VLAN 10
WLAN 2: VLAN 20
Floor2:
Management: VLAN 2
WLAN 1: VLAN 12
WLAN 2: VLAN 22

To answer question one, it will fall into the default profile unless it matches the criteria of a classifier. There are classifiers other than Device Location; Cloud Config Group, IP address, IP Subnet, and IP Range. As such, your idea should work.

What happens when the AP is online but it hasn't been assigned to a location? Is there a way to configured a rule based on the IP of the AP? If the AP is on the 10.0.0.0/24 subnet, assign SSID1 to VLAN 1?

Is a word, CLASSIFIERS. After creating the VLANs and subnets on your existing L2 & 3 infrastructure, in HM, go to "Plan View" under the Network 360 tab. Create your HQ location and add the 10 floors. If you have actual blueprints, it will assist with coverage maps.
Once those are ready, create your network policy and add your two SSIDs, or WLANs as you've called them and select the method of authentication you wish to use. Under "User Access Settings," check the "Apply a different user profile to various clients and user groups." Click the ADD button and create a user profile name, e.g. Floor1_VLAN10_profile, and add VLAN10 to the config here. Note you can create other profile settings like firewalling, tunneling, QoS, et al. Once saved, you will be bak in the SSID config where you will need to assign the profile to a rule. click the + button under "Assignment Rules." Name the rule, e.g. Floor1_VLAN10_rule. click the + button under "Assign user profiles to clients or users connecting to an SSID according to authentication and other client classification" and select "Client Location." This will bring up the locations you created in the Network 360 tab. Save the rule and save the SSID. Repeat this for the remaining VLANs and floors.
The next tab is Device Templates. This process will be a bit similar to the one you just performed, but will be in relation to the APs, rather than the clients. You will see a drop down menu next to the ADD button. select all the models you will be using to assign (a) default template(s). Next, click the ADD button and select an AP model that will be on floor 1. Name the template, e.g. AP550_fl1_template and make any config modifications you 'd like to make on a broad basis, e.g. mesh, radio profile assignments, etc. Once saved, you will be back at the device templates screen. Again you will need to assign a rule. Click on the + button under Classification Rules, name the rule, e.g. AP550_fl1_rule and click the ADD button. Select "Device Location" and select the appropriate location created in the Network 360 tab. Lather, Rinse, Repeat.
Take your time and reach back out if we can assist further. Good luck!
