Boot PROM password recovery

Boot PROM password recovery

Ozkan

Hello,

We have two Dell/Brocade M8428-K switches that we would like to put back into service.

Our backup switch failed, so we decided to replace it with one of these M8428-K switches. However, we no longer remember the administrator/root password and cannot access the device.

For now, we have removed the failed switch and installed the first M8428-K switch in the Dell PowerEdge M1000e chassis. Our plan is to reset and configure this switch first. After it is operational, we will install and activate the second M8428-K switch in the C2 I/O module slot of the M1000e chassis.

We are currently at the Boot PROM password recovery screen:

1) Start system.
2) Recover password.
3) Enter command shell.

Option? 2

Send the following string to Customer Support for password recovery:

RfM/KBCMdGUHh94JVqjTRg==

Enter the supplied recovery password.
Recovery Password:

Could an Extreme Networks representative please provide the recovery password for this recovery string via private message?

After recovering access to the first switch, we may also need assistance with the second M8428-K switch.

Thank you for your help.

Ozkan,

The M8428-K is not an Extreme device.  I would recommend you reach out to Broadcom for support.  Furthermore Extreme no longer supports VDX Boot Prom recovery via the community.

Best of luck

Thank you for your response.
I opened this topic because I found a previous thread on the same forum where assistance was provided for a similar Boot PROM recovery case:

https://community.extremenetworks.com/t5/data-center-vdx/boot-prom-password-recovery/m-p/99764

Since that request had been answered here, I assumed this was the correct place to ask. I understand that the support process or product responsibility may have changed since then.
