Guest Essentials Setup

Guest Essentials Setup

Hello,

i would like to setup a Guest SSID using the new “Guest Essentials” features, so our guests can try to register on a web page and have to get approved by an employee. So far i am having troubles configuring the SSID, etc.

I have created a SSID so it shows up in the guest insights as “up / green” and am able to see the ssid on mobile phone. When i try to access the SSID nothing happens. It only says no Internet connection and i stay on LTE. Are there any further configurations i have to do? Could’nt fint a real guide on how to set this up.

I struggled with this the first time i setup XIQ, i found that you need to first clone the captive portal template you want to use then ‘apply’ it too a location\floor. Once i did that it all worked perfect.

P.s. i assumed that by just changing a predefined template and changing all the obvious activation sliders it would all just work but it didn’t. If its not clear what i mean please let me know and i’ll jump on one of my customers portals and take a few screenshots.

Ok i’ve managed to get a splash page now when i enter the guest ssid, but the splash page seems to be completely different from the one i’ve chosen in the essentials tab. It looks like an old Aerohive Captive Web Portal Page (there’s even the aerohive logo at the bottom). I dont see this template anywhere in the configuration page.

And i guess you’re right about the UPs like seen in this guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lB3tYeAdVuc

I believe you do need to setup the groups in order for it to map correctly, even if they use the same VLAN. I’m still fairly new to this area also however, so this may be incorrect.

Additional thought, try going to a non-https page in a browser such as wifi123.org to see if it then redirects to the CWP page

Do i have to setup the UPs exactly like you did? So they connect to the guest essentials policy?

Hello,

thanks for your quick response.

First of all i have to revert one of my statements from above. I do get an IP adress from our “internet vlan”, i still dont get any registration web page or can open any other web page but it seems like i can use apps like Facebook, etc.

And no, i didn’t setup the user groups like in your screenshot. I created a UP just like all the other UPs, so it just enforces the vlan id of our internet vlan.

So far i’ve got the default policy and just wanted to get my first look at the registration etc. I do have setup a splash template. The Ap is also assigned to a location.

Hello,

Ok so sounds like the SSID has been set up if you can see it “green”. So “Enable Advanced Guest Access” in this has been enabled. Have you also set up the separate user profiles in the SSID as below, with each Advanced Guest Policy assigned to a user profile/VLAN?:

Next, in the guest essentials, ensure you’ve got the onboarding policy set up and that you’ve assigned a splash template to that guest SSID & location.
Also another requirement is to ensure that the AP is assigned to a location, and has been updated with the new ssid configuration.
