ERS8600 Impact on activating Jumbo frame

ERS8600 Impact on activating Jumbo frame

My client is in the process of migrating their ERS8600 to Universal Switches 7520, this should be done in June-July.

However, it has received a request to enable jumbo frames on the 8600 for interfacing with new ESXi servers.

Its software version is 7.2.23.0

The Jumbo frame setting is a global setting and will require a reset of the switch.

Does the customer have to anticipate other impacts if he activates this parameter?

Thank

Yes, enabling jumbo frames on the ERS8600, even temporarily, requires careful consideration as it's a global setting and necessitates a switch reset. The most critical impact is compatibility: all devices on the same network segment as the new ESXi servers *must* also support and be configured for the exact same jumbo frame MTU size, otherwise they will likely experience dropped packets and connectivity issues. Thorough testing of all connected devices and a clear rollback plan are essential before making this change. The customer should also verify jumbo frame support on any other network devices in the communication path between the ESXi servers and other resources.

Hi André,

I believe that there isnt negative impact in enable jumbo frames, but I dont know all the details of the network.

But, from this "Administration Avaya Ethernet Routing Switch 8800/8600" rel, 7.2 from May2013 doc number NN46205-605, you must reboot the chassis.
