connecting to an X440 switch via the serial connection is not working

I'm trying to connect to an Extreme x440 Summit switch via the serial port using Putty. When I connect, a bunch of garbage appears on the screen and just keeps scrolling. I can connect to another Extreme x440 without issue using the same setup. Does anyone have any suggestions? I can't factory reset because I can't serial into the switch

Hi Penny,
Have you checked if the RJ45 console port on the X440 is clean ? No dust and no pin broken or bent ?

I'm assuming nothing is broken off or not functioning in the cable since I can use the exact same one, plugged into the same PC to access the Console on a different Extreme Switch of the same kind.

What baud rate/serial settings are you using?

It should be 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity.

That description sounds like it could possibly be a baud rate mismatch.

Edit: Never mind, I just saw that you can console in to another one just fine. Sounds like the serial port on that switch may have gone bad. I'd suggest opening up an RMA for that switch.

Thank you Brandon, I've already checked all of the settings and tried using TeraTerm instead of Putty, just to make sure it wasn't software related.
