Extreme x870 and FEC.

Extreme x870 and FEC.

hi,

is there a reference as to whether, or not, the x870 supports FEC (forward error correction) at 100gb/s? my understanding is that i can opt for either FEC enabled optics or hardware (port-side); so i'm trying to build a matrix that fits.

i read: https://extremeportal.force.com/ExtrArticleDetail?an=000075253 ... which talks about FEC, but doesn't quite clearly up my understanding.

(for bonus points) what FEC-enabled ER optics, are folks using for 100gb/s in this platform?

thanks in advance,

Hi Nishal,

You can always look for limitations in five documents:
  • EXOS Datasheet: https://kapost-files-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/kapost/55ba7c9e07003d9aab000394/studio/content/57dbfb2f330db0dec00000b4/published/extremexos-r-data-sheet.pdf
  • EXOS Release Notes, User Guide, Command Reference and Feature License Requirements: https://www.extremenetworks.com/support/documentation/extremexos-30-1/
where EXOS Datasheet and User Guide is the best for checking the feature support, and EXOS Release Notes gives you actual limits on ACLs, routing tables, LACP limitations etc.

If you lookup the User Guide for 'Forward Error Correction' you will see that it is supported for X870 and X690 regardless of port speed/type. 🙂

Hope that helps,

hi tomasz,

thanks for the references; that's really helpful, and much appreciated. i guess i'm more used to looking through the product specsheet, and couldn't find it there! *blush*
