What's new in EXOS 16.2.1?

ExtremeXOS 16.2.1 was released recently and I wanted to share some information about the new features and functionality included. It runs on the following platforms — X430, X440, X450-G2, X460, X460-G2, X670, X670-G2, X770, BD8K, and BDX8. The list below includes some highlights. Enables Investment Protection Opportunities with
  • Support for CDPv2 protocol
  • Additional Optics Support for new QSFP+ ER4, LM4 optics and AOC cables along with tunable DWDM SFP+
  • ExtremeSwitching 8800 series MSM96 – MSM-96 brings MPLS, Data Center Bridging, and Pstag support to the 8800 class MSM along with higher throughput capacities. MSM-96 was first launched with ExtremeXOS 16.1.3 and now customers have ability to use this new card on a major release.
Enhanced Capabilities through New Functionality
  • Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP) Fabric Routing - Provides benefits of load sharing of traffic between VRRP routers & saves bandwidth on the links connecting master and backup routers
  • Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) Fallback Option
  • Configurable per slot LAG distribution
  • Support of AVB in LAG - Brings benefits of greater bandwidth or increased resiliency to AVB
  • Customer Edge Port–Port VLAN – Support for double tagging natively untagged packets received on an untagged VMAN port
  • Universal Port (UPM) feature is now included on all switches with ExtremeXOS operating system with L2 Edge license and above (including X430).
Strengthens ExtremeXOS Robustness with Architecture Enhancements & Emphasis on Increased Quality
  • OSPFv3 Stack Upgrade – The OSPFv3 stack upgrade makes the feature more stable & makes future additions easier
  • SSH Packaging Changes – ExtremeXOS 16.2 is now FIPS 140-2 compliant with an upgrade to the SSH server & addition of Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) compliance Object Module v2.0. In addition, ExtremeXOS 16.2 images now have SSH functionality included in the base xos file (i.e. no SSH xmod is required).
