Switch that keeps hitting the 60 degree threshold, is there alerting I can set up??

I have a brand new switch that keeps hitting 60 degrees Celsius that I want to monitor. There is enough ventilation in the location of the switch. I was wondering if it is possible to set up email notifications if the temperature hits 55 degrees.

Hello Anthony

The switch will notify you when the operating temperature exceeds the normal operating temp. If the switch exceeds the max limits then it will shut down to protect itself.

Please do a show temperature. this will show you the min normal and max temperatures. Do you have proper airflow around the switch? If it is continuously reaching the high limit I recommend looking into cooling that area more.

The switch is getting really hot. So hot that it actually shut off once. It is on the top of the stack (of 3) but I didn't think that would matter. I want to know if I can get an email alert when it hits 55 so I can know about the temperature issue before it shuts the switch down. Here is the log:

Hey George

I hopefully you received my tweet back. Sorry the character limit of twitter won't allow me to give a better answer.

Can you provide some more information? When a switch hits a temperature limit we will post a message in the log and using syslog we can send that to a management application like Ridgeline that can then send an email.

What I am not sure about from your post is if the switch is really that hot or if you are just seeing the log messages. We did have a hyper sensitive reporting of the temperature where the ambient temp was that hot but not the actual switch. It was causing us to put in bogus temp warnings in the log table. One way to verify is to so a show switch and look at the temperature reading. If it is below 60c then you should be ok. The latest patch version of 15.3.1 should resolve the log messages.
