Need Help Resetting 5420 Switch (VOSS 8.4.0.0) via CLI - Factory Reset Not Working

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to reset my 5420 Extreme Networks switch running VOSS 8.4.0.0 to factory defaults using the CLI because I no longer have access to ExtremeCloud IQ. I used the command boot config flags factorydefaults, but it didn’t work as expected—it didn’t reset the switch to factory defaults and still retains the current user's credentials. I want the switch to prompt for a new password on the next console login, like a fresh-out-of-the-box state.

Can someone please guide me on the correct CLI command or steps to perform a full factory reset on this switch? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone!

I want to follow up on this problem, it was solved by upgrading the firmware to VOSS 9.1.0.0 and doing the cli commands to unconfigure it

The command you used puts the switch in the "old" factory defaults, which pre-dates zero-touch onboarding.

For the defaults you got when the 5420 booted up new, you need to delete config.cfg and restart.

To delete the credentials, you need to delete file .shadovnonfedmoc_512.txt also.

There are other encrypted files to delete to get true defaults.

As of VOSS8.9 a new command "unconfigure switch" was added which does it nicely; but your switch version is too old.

Maybe upgrade it, then do "unconfigure switch".

I tried deleting some files the community told me to still it doesn't work and I wanted to link it to an XIQ account to use the utilities and reset it to factory defaults it has an IP address and DNS 8.8.8.8 but can not connect to the portal , is it related to the command ? can I fix it
