Hi, I'm not its architect but this solution works near flawlessly for us and we are near 100% Apple. Occasionally a client has to turn their wifi on/off but not very often. Here's the conversation I had with our architect:

We use what's called "Wide Area Bonjour," or "unicast DNS-SD." It's conceptually very similar to the more common multicast component, except it works via unicast DNS queries to a central server rather than via troublesome multicast traffic. Macs and iOS devices see our printers with no additional device configuration beyond getting on the network itself.
