Cause
This document is an elaboration on procedures as presented in the
Matrix DFE Series Configuration Guide.
For special instructions when upgrading from pre-5.x to 5.01.58+, see
5469.
For a caution regarding upgrade from pre-6.x to 6.01.01.0020+, see
9430.
For special instructions when upgrading from pre-7.x to 7.11.01.0025+, see
13533.
A firmware upgrade to the N-Series platform may be accomplished via TFTP or FTP.
Best practice is to save the current configuration file prior to upgrading firmware and after any configuration changes are made (
5035).
Please also be aware of the background information presented in
5131, to potentially avoid installing a new DFE switch into a running DFE chassis with operational switches, and having it fail to boot up properly.
Note that there is no present reason to consider upgrading the boot prom version on any DFE switch. These images are therefore not available.
Solution
The TFTP process:
- Download and unzip the firmware file from our Download Library. Start and minimize the TFTP application on the TFTP Host device. If you don't have a TFTP application, you can download one free of charge. Establish a command line management session to the DFE equipment. System Flash can accommodate up to two firmware image files at one time. Ensure that the DFE's directory shows no more than the one Active firmware image present (5631). Copy the file from where it was placed in Step 1, to the DFE. Note that you may well need to adjust the format of this command somewhat, to conform to your source and destination file structure and operating system:Matrix N7(su)->copy tftp://10.10.191.222/10803 10803

Distribution complete.Note1: In all firmware release notes, in the 'Known Restrictions and Limitations' section it states:
"When using the copy command to upload or download files, the use of a drive selection (i.e., C:) for windows systems is not supported in the URL. The user must use a path that is on the 'current' drive from the TFTP or FTP server's perspective."
Note2: As an alternative to using TFTP, the file transfer can also be accomplished via a serial ZModem process, as explained in the Configuration Guide. Firmware selection can then be done as part of that process, or as explained below. List the directory of available files:Matrix N7(su)->dir
