Goals
Rules for use of higher numbered RJ45 ports.
Use all RJ45 ports plus MGBIC ports.
Symptoms
Link Lost.
Not functioning.
Ethernet port will not link.
RJ45 port 21 22 23 24 45 46 47 48 won't link - is dead.
Cause
For the above named gigabit ethernet products, the MGBIC slots are numbered either 21-24 or 45-48, depending on the port density of the product. As the numbering implies; the linking of a MGBIC port removes the ability of the identically-numbered 10/100/1000 RJ45 port to function.
For these dual-use port numbers, only one of each shared port pair may attain or show ethernet link at a time, and the MGBIC port has priority over the use of the shared logical port number. If an MGBIC port is linked, the identically numbered RJ45 port is then not useable.
The total useable port count is 24 (ports 21-24 reassignable) or 48 (ports 45-48 reassignable), instead of 24+4 or 48+4.
Note1: The C3K122-24(P) also has two XFP (10Gig) slots which may be used regardless of the MGBIC port status.
Note2: The C5K models have only two combo MGBIC ports but also have two SFP+ (10Gig/1Gig) slots which may be used regardless of the MGBIC port status.
Note3: The B5K models have only two combo MGBIC ports but also have two XFP (10Gig) slots (
12975) which may be used regardless of the MGBIC port status.
The notable exceptions are the 10/100 ethernet products:
- the C1H124-48, which has 48 10/100 RJ45 ports, 2 10/100/1000 RJ45 ports, and 2 MGBIC slots - all of which may be used simultaneously;
- the B2H124-48, B2H124-48P, C2H124-48, and C2H124-48P, which have 48 10/100 RJ45 ports and 4 MGBIC slots - all of which may be used simultaneously.
