Assistance Needed with Network Management System Integration

Hello everyone,

I hope this post finds you all well! I’m seeking advice regarding a challenge I’m facing with integrating a new Network Management System (NMS) into our existing network infrastructure. We recently upgraded our hardware, moving to a mix of ExtremeSwitching and ExtremeWireless devices. While the initial deployment went smoothly, we’re encountering issues with monitoring and managing the devices effectively through the NMS.

The main issue is inconsistent device discovery. Some devices are detected immediately, while others seem to appear intermittently or not at all. We’ve double-checked SNMP configurations, ensured firewalls aren’t blocking communication, and verified that all devices are running compatible firmware. Still, the problem persists.

Here are a few specifics of our setup:

  • NMS: ExtremeCloud IQ – Site Engine
  • Devices: ExtremeSwitching X435 Series, AP410C Access Points
  • Network Environment: Hybrid VLAN configuration with multiple subnets

In addition to discovery issues, I’m noticing that certain devices report incomplete telemetry data. For example, traffic statistics and client connections on a few access points seem inaccurate compared to what’s observed on the CLI.

Here are a few questions I hope the community can help with:

  1. Are there specific settings or configurations within ExtremeCloud IQ – Site Engine that could improve device discovery reliability?
  2. Could this issue stem from something within the hybrid VLAN/subnet setup? If so, what adjustments might help?
  3. Has anyone else encountered telemetry data discrepancies with Extreme devices, and what troubleshooting steps worked for you?

Hi.

What comes to my mind is: IP address conflict/duplicity. That would explain the reliability and discrepancies.
