Concept for role-based courses?

Currently, the courses are being converted to role-based courses. Unfortunately, I did not understand this concept. Would it be possible for someone to explain this here?

We have the following groups of people as participants for the courses:

  • Customer: Usually interested in knowing how the products work and how to configure and operate them.
  • Partner: (e.g. PartnerWorks and PartnerWorksPlus) installation and troubleshooting
  • Reseller: Distributor or partner who sells only ExtremeWorks and/or Extreme Premier service.

Current or future courses are (Please correct me if the names are not correct.):
  • Deploy
  • Manage
  • Advanced Configuration
  • Troubleshooting

I now have the following questions about this:
  • What are the roles?
  • What is the mapping between roles and groups of people?
  • What is the mapping between roles and courses?
  • What is the recommendation, who should take which course in which order.
