Question on prempt timing. Our VRRP is configured the same between two S Cores . Each closet (25) have 6 vlans / 6 vrrp instances running to each.
If my understanding is correct the Master advertisement is (default) one every 1 sec. 1) Does the backup wait until it misses 1 ad before it prempts or does it start the prempt process on missing 3 ad's.? 2) Should the prempt timer be set as some multiple of the ad timing? 3) If the prempt timer set to some multiple time and if an ad is received within that time does the prempt process get reset and start watching ads again?
The reason for the question is that our Extreme X460 stacks of 7 switches house student pc's. These pc's because of a process called deepfreeze are rebooted every night. As you might expect between the link up/down and dhcp processes running on each pc we believe that the VRRP ad gets smothered and the Core reports missing Master advertisement. VRRP flap insues.
