VLAN Definition via EMC (Netsight)

Sometimes Netsight 8.0.x does not allow VLAN Definition on new switches.

See here - EXOS Switch with V16.2.4.5:

If i start MIB Browser i can read VLAN Information.

At next day it works ...

It seems that there needs to be a overnight run to recognize the ability for 802.1Q MIB VLAN Management ...

Does anybody know how to trigger this process (that i do not have to wait overnight) ?

Or is there another reason why netsight does not offer VLAN Definition on this switch ?

Thanks for feedback.

Hi Nees,

AFAIK the "edit device" window will provision the switch from the site configuration. It may not fetch the VLAN info from switch.
Can you check the "device view" for the VLAN information and see if the info is present there?
right click device > view > Device details > Device view

Hi Karthik,

today i test this szenario in my lab again.

The switch was sucessfully reachable via snmpv3 - CLI etc. MIB Tool can read VLAN from switch.

But Edit Device offer NOT the option to configure VLANs (= VLAN Definition Button).

During customer projects i know tomorrow is will see that button.
Why process / script must be triggered ?
Netsight re-descovery - deleting network monitor cache already tried but without success!

For a last test i upgrade the switch to EXOS 22.3.1.4 PAtch 1-4 (because i use a G2 Switch) and surprise, surprise after re-descovery VLAN Definition is possible !

EXOS 16.2.4.5 Bug or Netsight 8.0.4 Bug ???

i recognize that Q-Bridge MIB will only (fully) supported started with EXO 22.1.x.

So EXOS 16.x will not work!
Q-Bridge MIB seems to be provides only on part - but NOT in that part that Netsight can manipulate VLANs.

I hope for all G1 or 16.x customer that maybe a backport of that functionality will be done ...

Dear Rahman Duran.

please check the GitHub = https://github.com/extremenetworks/ExtremeScripting/blob/master/Netsight/oneview_CLI_scripts/README....

There is script you can import to the Extreme Management Center and you can configure VLAN on XOS 15.3 and newer the same way as on Cisco Catalyst.

Let me know your experience.

The script is tested on Extreme Management Center version 8.0.4.54

Sure we can use scripts, but it is not the same thing. Scripts are good for batch configuring maybe but it is best if we can see the ports vlan config on OneView device view and make changes there.

We tested a 3rd party NMS software and It was capable of creating/configuring vlans and ports on HP/Cisco/AlliedTelesis and all Enterasys gear we have (even legacy A2H series which EMC 8.x even fails to list device ports correctly). And believe me I had a hard time to explain why the official and paid NMS can't do this while a third party one can.

Rahman

Dear Rahman.

Thank you for your response. I am sorry for your experience.

You can use Flexview for HP and Enterasys and new XOS. All those do support standard 802.1Q MIB. Cisco and old XOS does not support standard 802.1Q MIB, so you can use script.

Old XOS does not support 802.1Q MIB so there is only XML and CLI what can be used.

I will investigate the A2H issue. Thank you for bringing to our attention.

Best regards

Zdenek

As a workaround there a CLI based VLAN Scripts in Netsight Solution available - they work with EXOS G1 Switches.
See Administration - Scripting - Category "VLAN"

Unfortunately these scripts needs some improvements to be really useful - currently they are not so helpful as they could be ...

Does anybody know which other (3rd Party) vendors supported by current XMC VLAN Management ?

Which other vendors have implement the needed parts of Q-Bridge MIB in there switch firmware?
