Access to HiveOS and HiveManager Updates

Hi

I have some 2nd user Aerohive AP330’s and Hive Manager appliance. I would like to use these to provide a wireless network for a church ( a registered charity) which is being refurbished to provide support services for homeless people. Our own services to install and support the implementation will be free of charge so I cannot afford to spend much on this. What is the most cost effective route to obtaining updates please?

TIA Stephen.

Hi Sam
Good news! After upgrading to 6.5r11 via web ui the HM can now connect to and manage the APs ☺
Thanks for all your help.
Regards
Stephen.

I'm very sorry for the confusion here. I've emailed you directly with the 6.5r11 file you'll need. Unfortunately I can't tell you exactly why the HiveManager is having issues with the firmware upgrade at this point, but I can tell you it isn't the same issue we were running in to with the outdated firmware. If you want to have a root cause analysis on why the firmware upgrades are failing now, that would require a technical support case. I can tell you the work around for this, which is to upgrade the firmware manually.

Hi Sam
I am really puzzled (sorry).
I have upgraded to 6.5r4 through the AP’s web ui so this works.
However, I now need two things:

1. Upgrade AP to 6.5r11 (which I don’t have)
2. Get the AP manageable through HM
Not sure why even if item 1 above was completed why the AP would then be manageable through HM.
TIA
Stephen.

Typically after you are on 6.5r3 or later, HiveManager will be able to work with the device. Separate from that, when we see users run in to that error when trying to upgrade, we recommend trying the upgrade through either a TFTP flash or the Web UI. A TFTP flash requires a technical support case and a screen sharing session with an Aerohive engineer to complete, but the Web UI is a work around you can do on your side without support.

Firmware updates won't be affected by what password is set on the device. The password you see under global settings gets applied to the AP after it gets a configuration update for the first time. In a default state, the password will either be "Aerohive1" or "aerohive". The HM and AP use different encryption when contacting each other directly, the only time this password comes in to play is when you want to SSH in to the device.
