I am evaluating several AeroHive APs and Hivemanager, comparing to other vendors to make as election for a large deployment.
Right now in Hivemanager, I have a lot of devices that have undetected client host names, undetected VENDOR OUI, undetected Client OS etc. Usually industrial devices or other odd appliances. Short of me keeping an Excel spreadsheet that tracks MAC Address to the device - can Hivemanager do this simple task?
I have added MAC objects and names to the Objects list, but it seems that only helps when making MAC firewall rules. It does not fix the problem where the monitoring list is filled with tens or hundreds of clients with no names. All I have displayed are MAC addresses.
Other cloud controller solutions I am evaluating allow me to make notes for clients it has seen and tracks them by their unique MAC. I have looked around and not yet found this in Hivemanager,
Thank you,

I did that, but the name does not carry over to the MONITOR->CLIENTS hostname field.
You can use those names that you add there in MAC FIREWALL POLICIES, but it does not help you when looking at the clients list. The name does not appear there.
It seems like a disconnect. It is *almost* useful - so close....

To create a custom MAC object we'd want to go to Configure> Common Objects> MAC Objects/ MAC OUIs (under the BASIC heading on the left hand side menu)> ADD. Here you can add a custom name for a particular MAC address, is that closer to what you were looking for? I know it's not as helpful as a notes section, but it would allow you to re-name individual known client devices.
I don't know of a list for the CLIENT HOST NAME probe methods, but I will look in to this further for you and let you know what I find out.

Thank you for your response. I do think the ability to make client notes would be useful especially when multiple administrators or shifts of administrators manage these installations.
I am not sure option 55 will help me, as I am sure the same make/model of say a light switch will all request their options list using the same string. At best all I might know is yes in fact, I have 40 smart light switches on the network. However I would be interested to know how to create the custom profiling options or custom MAC objects you mention.
Also, is there a document that lists all the ways that Aerohive tries to probe for that CLIENT HOST NAME field and the order it might process those (NETBIOS/DNS/CUSTOM MAC OBJECTS)?
In the end, I do wish for a simple HOSTS file type storage on my cloud controller, that will allow me to enter static MAC to HOST NAME entries. You have the vast power of the cloud, and right now I am besting it with a simple text file.
Thanks again
