Struggling to onboard new AP

Struggling to onboard new AP

Hi Everyone,

Im just wanting to ask for a little steer from those more familiar with this system than I am.

We're helping to support a client who has a pre-existing Hive Manager Online instance
The Majority of their current APs are AP230 that where bound to the Hive manager by a previous IT tech that isn't with the company.
They have puchased an AP1130 that we're trying to help bind to the controller.

Steps taken so far:
1. Add Serial for the Device to the online hive manager, This device shows in the "Unmanaged Devices" tab as you would expect
2. The Device has been installed, with the correct VLANs configured for it to access the network.
3. The Device is drawing POE, has powered on Drawn a DHCP address
4. Use Putty to SSH into the AP
5. From there Ping External to validate web connectivity: Successful pings to 8.8.8.8 and Google.com
6. via shh: Capwap Ping Redirector.aerohive.com - 5 successful pings no drops

Yet for some reason this is not binding itself into the hive manager
I'm asking for a steer on what further troubleshooting steps I'm missing?

sh capwap client will probably be the most helpful in helping to figure this out.  Things you want to check:

  • RUN state: should be "Connected securely to the CAPWAP server"
  • Virtual HiveManager Name: this should match your VIQ Name in XIQ. You can find this in XIQ by clicking on your name in the upper right hand corner->Global Settings, then on the left hand side under Administration click VIQ Management. This will show you your VIQ Name
  • CAPWAP server IP: should be one of the IPs for XIQ. If it is 54.172.0.252 (the IP for redirector.aerohive.com), then the AP may be registered to another account.

Post the output of "show capwap client" and we should be able to point you in the right direction.

Hi,

on the cli try:

sh dns -> you should see your correct dns server here.

sh cpawap client -> Perhaps you can see here, which HM the AP is trying to reach.

Is there any Firewall blocking traffic to specific Targets?

Hi,

1st thing I would try is a factory reset of the AP. With the unit powered up, hold the reset button in for 5+ seconds.

Kind regards
