The application signature is included in the HiveOS versions, so updating your HiveOS will also update your application signature file to the corresponding latest version. Does this answer your question?

In my observation updating firmware does not update the application signature. Further more I speculate that Aerohive didn't renew its contract with third party Fingerbank service, that being the business reason Aerohive removed the ability to check in the GUI of the new HiveManager. The last update seem to have been around September 2017. There is a _hidden command in the CLI to see application signature version - "show application _dpi diagnosis".

There is the option to update separately in classic, but they should still be updating with your HiveOS updates. If you did a manual HiveOS update that might have skipped the application signature step. You can certainly update to the latest version, but we haven't had any new application signature files in a while so even the latest version is a bit dated. We'll have new ones in the future, but I don't have an ETA on that right now.

It looks like updating the application signature is a separate step than updating firmware. When I go a step further in this menu it indicates application signature 5.3 is available. Should I update it over 5.1? or Do I even need to update it?
