Hello ,

I have a strange problem ,  MLXe 4 chassis think it’s MLX Chassis,

I tried upgrading it to different version with no avail ,

telnet@SE-LAB#sh version
System Mode: MLX
Chassis: NetIron 4-slot (Serial #: *******,  Part #: *******)
NI-X-HSF Switch Fabric Module 1 (Serial #: ******,  Part #: ****)

any way I can fix this identity crisis ?

f0 is the value for the MLXe4.

The backplane looks fine for me and I have no further idea right now. Still thinking that it needs to be tampered directly in the eeprom, but I  am still wondering if somebody just put a xmr-backplane inside a mlxe4-chassis 😉

unfortunately I didn’t work with f0 , stating it’s invalid chassis type  , it onlt worked with ac though

MP-1 OS>set chassis-type f0
Error:cmd_set_chassis_type: invalid chassis type f0

MP-1 OS>set chassis-type ac
Chassis type is XMR (ac)

so maybe f0 is the wrong type ? or maybe I need to change the backplane type first ?

Ok, the console may be blocking and capturing the non printable characters. Can you try to set the type from the monitor image?

You need to connect a serial console and either interrupt the boot process with the key or during a booted mlx run the commands:

mlx#dm monitor
Entering Monitor console...
MP-1 OS>set chassis-type
Hexadecimal      0x40=HEAVY, 0x41=LIGHT
MP-1 OS>set backplane-type
Hexadecimal      0x4=mucho, 0x8B=RX-32, 0x84=RX-16, 0x85=RX-8, 0x86=RX-4

If you are lucky,
set chassis-type F0
or set chassis-type 0xF0

will work,

else I am running out of ideas…
