Good Morning Team,

My Issue:
  • I have 2x Brocade 6470T Switches stacked.
  • Each switch is licenses with 8x 10Gbe ports licensed

  • I have two ports I am try to remove from from the assigned license.

What I have done:

Tried to release a port from a POD set using the following

Releasing a port from a POD set:

Once a port has been assigned to a Dynamic POD license port set, it remains licensed (or "reserved") untilthe userremoves the port from the port set.To remove a port from the port set,release the port with the dpod release command. Releasing a port removes it from the Dynamic POD license port set; the port appears as unassigned until it comes back online.

switch# configure terminal
Entering configuration mode terminal
switch(config)# interface 1/0/10
switch(conf-if-te-1/0/10)# shutdown
switch(conf-if-te-1/0/10)# exit
switch(config)# dpod 1/0/10 release
switch(config-dpod-1/0/10)# exit

Yes, this is as designed. As there is no license associated to this port, it will not come up, and any config will be removed after attempting to no shut the device.

When a port is connected, it should automatically assign a Dynamic license assignment (DPOD) unless there are no licenses available.

You will want to check the full output of your "show dpod" to see the total number of port assignments you have provisioned, how many are used and how many are available.

As your "show license" output shows a single 8port 10G upgrade installed, I will assume you have a total of 32 port assignments provisioned. (24 From the Base switch license + 8 Port Upgrade = 32 Total)

If your "show dpod" output lists:

code:
0 license reservations are still available for use by unassigned ports


Then you will will either need to remove a reservation off a port that is assigned a license and not in use, or install an additional 10G Port Upgrade.

If your system does show available licenses, however is not reserving the port, please try the following:

Entering configuration mode terminal
VDX1(config)# dpod 11/0/46
VDX1(config-dpod-11/0/46)# reserve
VDX1(config-dpod-11/0/46)# end


Then shut/no shut the port and verify if it comes up.

Ultimately if none of the above addresses your issue, I suggest you open a case with our TAC team and we can do some live troubleshooting with your to resolve your issue.

If I understand you correctly, your goal is to remove this port (11/0/46) from using your installed 10G port license. From the output you have provided, the port is not associated to any license, so you have released it properly. There is a lot of information in "show dpod" here is an example from my lab:

Here you can see I have no 10G license installed, so therefore I only have use of 24x10G ports

VDX1# show dpod
rbridge-id: 1
48 10G ports are available in this switch
4 40G ports are available in this switch
No 10G Port Upgrade license is installed
No 40G Port Upgrade license is installed
Dynamic POD method is in use

24 10G port assignments are provisioned for use in this switch: -- Total number of ports available
24 10G port assignments are provisioned by the base switch license -- Base 24 ports included by default
6 10G ports are assigned to installed licenses: -- Total number of ports assigned to all licenses
6 10G ports are assigned to the base switch license -- Number of ports assigned to base (up to 24)
10G ports assigned to the base switch license:
1/0/1, 1/0/2, 1/0/3, 1/0/4, 1/0/5, 1/0/6
10G ports assigned to the 10G Port Upgrade license: -- No ports assigned as I have no upgrade installed
None
10G ports not assigned to a license: -- All other ports not in use or unlicensed
1/0/7, 1/0/8, 1/0/9, 1/0/10, 1/0/11, 1/0/12, 1/0/13, 1/0/14, 1/0/15, 1/0/16
1/0/17, 1/0/18, 1/0/19, 1/0/20, 1/0/21, 1/0/22, 1/0/23, 1/0/24, 1/0/25, 1/0/26

With the above information, and looking at the output you provided:

10G ports not assigned to a license:
11/0/46

This port is not assigned to any license. If you are trying to bring another port up, please check your entire "show dpod" output to confirm the number of ports you have assigned to all of your licenses as well as the number of licenses you have available for use.
