ExtremeWireless & ExtremeControl Guest Authentication

ExtremeWireless & ExtremeControl Guest Authentication

Greetings guys,

I've posted about 1 year ago about NAC Social Media authentication ideas for Guest networks (https://community.extremenetworks.com/extreme/topics/nac-social-network-registration-ideas), but I haven't got any feedbacks, so I'll try again and expand it a bit...

I think we are very limited on available options to offer Social Media registration and authentication to our customers. Today the only available option is to use ExtremeControl and Facebook, and maybe we are behind our competition... (many customers don't have EC now or plans to deploy, but Wireless is booming)..

Our customers frequently are asking for Social Media authentication, more then using EC and Facebook, but Google, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and others (maybe some of them aren't possible, but they ask me about it ).

EW doesn't have any Social Media auth available (besides CP using solutions like Purple) while our competitors (big fishes like Cisco/Meraki, Aruba, Ruckus [?!?] and low-end like Intelbras, Netgear and D-Link) offer this. I think EW should offer this out-of-the-box...

EC only allows FB auth & registration.

Maybe it's the time to take a closer look at these requests from our customers and offer it as our competitors are already doing (a long time ago)?

I think it's not about "doing the same" but we could differentiate ourselves from the other offering solutions like this and more, just like I suggested before, something like "Social Media Auth&Registration with Sponsorship" for EC. This is something that no one (AFAIK) offer to the customers (especially in Brazil, where our regulations and laws require the companied that offer Internet to anyone to hold access records for 5 years!).

Best regards,

-Leo

Hi Thomas,

I think you are absolutely right.

There's some good news about Google/Azure auth being included.

I agree with you about LinkedIn as I just got a few questions about it, but the customers are always asking about Instagram and Twitter auth support (and about Google and MS).

If we could have FB, Google, Azure, Twitter and Instagram it would be awesome and make our customers even happier.

Thanks!

Leonardo,

Thank you for your feedback. Social media as a mean to login is getting more and more prevalent, and to your point, a necessity for guest access. We will be adding both google and Microsoft Azure to our existing FB authentication capabilities, and would appreciate your feedback on the pervasiveness of Instagram and/or LinkedIn.
Our current understanding is that Guests are not inclined to logging in using their LinkedIn credentials, but we are certainly open to discussing how prevalent these are in your market.

Hi Leo,
One of our product directors has been asked for his input on this topic. It looks like your other thread has gotten some activity as well.
