Using snmp traps bgpM2Established and bpgM2BackwardTransition in NetSight

Hi,

I am using NetSight 6.3.0.168 to manage all my XOS switchs.
The NetSight server receives snmp traps when BGP events occur and specially snmp traps bgpEstablished, bgpBackwardTransition, bgpM2Establisehd and bgpM2BackwardTransition.
To be inform about BGP events, I configured alerts in NetSight using snmp traps. But NetSight doesn't permit to choose snmp traps bgpM2Established and bgpM2backwardTransition. These traps are not listed.
I'm interested in these traps because they contains more details like the remote peer address and the bgp peer state than the other traps which contain a value "unknown" in these fields.

Is there a way to use snmp traps bgpM2Estableshed and bgpM2BackwardTransition to alerts when BGP event occurs in NetSight ?

Best Regards,
Romain M.

I searched in this list the OID and the name of the traps but they are not present. I'm fairly sure that the new MIB is loaded because the MIB Tool indicates that the bgpM2Established is defined in the MIB file which I placed in the MyMIB folder of the NetSight server.(https://gtacknowledge.extremenetworks.com/articles/How_To/Netsight-Importing-a-MIB-into-Netsight)

You're welcome Romain.

If you go into Console > Tools > Alarm/Events > Alarms Manager, you can create a new alarm. For the new Alarm Details, click on the Criteria tab. For the Alarm Type select By Selected Trap. Then select Edit Traps and the OIDs that are loaded should appear. Then you can select the OID you want to use for that specific alarm.

Hope this helps.

Thank you Tony for your help !

NetSight already got a MIB BGP4-V2-MIB, but to be sure I added the MIB BGP4-V2-MIB-idr-05 in the MyMibs folder. I can use the MIB tool to find the OID but it is not listed in the "Trap Selection" into the "Alarm Manager".

Maybe I miss something but is possible to add a new OID in the "Trap Selection" of the "Alarm Manager" ?

Romain,

Sorry, the actual MIB is here:

http://www.icir.org/fenner/mibs/extracted/BGP4-V2-MIB-idr-05.txt

Since it is a draft still, the compile may have some errors.

If you do have compile errors, compiling at severity level 1 may eliminate the errors.

Hi Romain,

Have you loaded the BGP4-V2-MIB into NetSight? It is an IETF (not Extreme MIB) that has these objects. The MIB can be found at:

http://www.icir.org/fenner/mibs/htmllint/BGP4-V2-MIB.html

Hope this helps.

Tony
