XIQ-SE - restore backup after upgrade

XIQ-SE - restore backup after upgrade

Hi Team,

During an upgrade I read in the log file created after upgrade that a previous backup is created in this path:

"2024-02-27 13:57:30.382 INFO [Thread-6] MigrateAndRestoreFiles.java:493 - backupdir = /usr/local/Extreme_Networks/NetSight/.installer/backup//current/"

My question is, if something goes wrong after upgrade in the destination release, fatal error, could you use this backup to reinstall it a new XIQ-SE in the start release?

conditions:

- before the upgrade i didnt take a backup
- you dont have hypervisor´s backup of the XIQ-SE

Regards

EF

The answer is technically no.

This is not a SQL database backup. It is not the same as the database backup, either manual or scheduled, via the GUI.

In this sub-directory you will find various core component files stored / tucked away and this would be considered truly 'disaster recovery'. Those files would only be used to get certain target files if necessary to attempt to recover.

While there is a copy of the mysql/data sub-directory - size permitting - it is not something you could use to 'restore' a backup. You can manually import this data to a running database or slipstream the files in, sure ...

... but this should never replace the best practice of making a true backup of the database normally and/or a snapshot of the VM prior to upgrading.

Interesting question. Can you check what is inside the folder?
