UPDATED: July 2026

The ExtremeCloud™ IQ classic UI will be retired in Q2 calendar year 2027.  The new UI has been available since July 2025 to ensure customers have ample time to become comfortable before the classic UI is retired.

We will be transitioning from the classic UI to our modernized new UI which will become the default interface for all ExtremeCloud IQ customers. The final operational date for the classic UI is yet to be confirmed and will be communicated closer to the transition period.

Currently administrators are presented with the classic UI when initially logging into ExtremeCloud IQ. Beginning in November 2026, by default customers will be presented with the new UI but will have the option to toggle via the 9-dot menu back to the classic UI.

Why is This Transition Needed?

The new UI is built on a next-generation architecture that delivers:

  • Improved performance and stability
  • Streamlined workflows with a modern, and easier to use UI design
  • Enhanced monitoring, troubleshooting, and visibility
  • A scalable foundation aligned with Extreme’s cloud-managed roadmap

Seamless Transition to ExtremeCloud IQ new

  • Customers will have a new UI and UX to manage their networks with ExtremeCloud IQ new
  • There will be NO IMPACT to customers data / networks / logs / devices
  • Customers will continue to manage and monitor their network as they have been doing prior to the upgrade

What are the changes and their impacts?

  • There will be NO IMPACT to existing networks.
  • Same URL and login credentials
  • No licensing or entitlement changes
  • Network configurations, policies, data, permissions, and performance remain
    unchanged
  • Only the UI experience is updated
  • Administrators will manage and monitor their networks exactly as before, but
    now with a modernized interface
  • Existing features in the classic UI that will be retired and replaced by advanced features. These
    include:
    • WiNG Controller Data in Connected Mode
    • A3
    • SR and Dell Switch support
    • XR Routing Support
    • Legacy Entitlement Keys (LEK)

Recently added functionality:

  • The Guest, WIPS, and Location features (formerly known as Essentials)
  • Improved administrator roles and RBAC functionality
  • Manual packet capture
  • Local AP, Controller, and Tunnel Concentrator onboarding and monitoring.
  • ExtremeCloud IQ Site Engine monitoring
  • Enhanced Filtering Options

Here is the bug with channels within a Radio profile - in this case Ng0 -:

Start with USA and it shows only 3 channels are available:

USA - 3 Channel.png

Select Europe, which allows 4 channels, and you see option for 3 and 4 channels.  I clicked on 4 channels:

Euro - 4 Channel.png

Then back to the country selection, I select USA, and sure enough I have 4 channels as available:

USA - 4 Channel.png

This I sort of stumbled upon, but for those that use lots of Radio Profile (I use a fair amount) and manage cross country Tenants, this could be an issue. Then again it may not affect anyone or anything, but still.  Improper coding is exactly that, and can have real world repercussions. I'm hoping this is just a visual bug for those that manage US and Euro Tenants for your customers.

@WG22 Thanks, I was able to see the number of disconnected devices from the dashboard and pull them up. The only problem is the number of down APs is correct, but when I view which ones are down it also pulls in all the new APs that aren't connected yet. Do you know if there is a way to filter out new devices that I haven't deployed yet?

@WW @WG22 Thanks, thats helpful, especially when I restart an AP.  BUT, I am going to really miss that rebooting progress bar! While it may have only been a timer within the browser and XIQ interface, it gave me an idea how long to expect the AP to be down (even when it would crap out).

Same thing - sort of - when doing a firmware update, although if quick enough you can click on the "view" button within the banner that pops up after initiating the FW Update and see its progress.

Taking away progress bars from rebooting though, thats harsh.  I wonder what we get, or dont get when setting an AP "back to template defaults"?!   Has anyone done that within EP1/XIQ New ? and what happens?

Not to say I told yah so... in regard to API's, but this popped up yesterday about "legacy" API's being "turned off" - and note the timing is a bit coincidental -:

https://community.extremenetworks.com/t5/extremecloud-iq-xiq/fn-2026-526-end-of-life-legacy-aerohive...

And this blurb:

"Continuing to operate the legacy gateway blocks platform consolidation, complicates security and rate-limiting governance, and prevents customers from receiving the feature richness, performance, and support guarantees of the modern APIs."

That tells me that they may have painted themselves into a corner with New and EP1, and the only way forward is to kill the old API's.  I'm pretty sure Classic uses all those API's, and lets face it, most of us can work well with Classic which obviously relied on them.  I think they created brand new API's for the newer platforms, didnt attempt to migrate - not even replicate - the old ones to the new platforms, and thats why we have all these issues in New and EP1.  Its a best guess, but to me, it explains a lot.

@WW  The only way I think of at the moment is to put all APs that arent connected in one site ie Provisioning etc then you can remove\untick the site when viewing in Network Devices.  As Sam mentioned additional filtering capabilities are expected to be available soon so this should take care of this for this future ie a disconnected filter

@DeVoIDIf you click the 3 dots top next to Upgrade Firmware in Network Devices you will see the progress for upgrades  named Firmware Upgrade History which you can view real-time and historically.

@WG22 Thanks... appreciated.  I just made sure to click on the "view" button before it left and its the same place you describe....  Nice I can get to it from what you describe.  Now if they could have a progress bar for restarting AP's, that would be kinda great... instead of running a ping command with -t on it....

Oh but get this.  I did a firmware update that EP1 said failed!!! it didnt fail... XIQ showed it didnt fail, and back in EP1 - after a refresh -  that showed it had installed (by device not history).  But in that history page, it showed failed.  No way to clear that history, and the only selectable is "retry update"...... So i HAVE to try a retry just to clear that? want to bet it actually does install that firmware over the top of the one that was successful?  all this just to clear that history up!  <so over this>

Hi Sam

In your response to @DeVoID re not being able to manage EOL devices from the new UI, can you please confirm if we will be able to perform actions to reboot and deploy policy updates to these devices via the GUI. We currently have 38 AP150W access points in service across our network. We also frequently use the GUI to change management status, assign location, locate the device etc. and need to understand how these tasks will be performed after the new UI is mandated.

Await your feedback.

Many thanks.

@TimWillink They double-backed on that.  AP's that are EOSL will migrate to whatever new interface you get (which is based on licenses), so whether EP1 or XIQ New, your AP's will show up.

I know this thread is a big sprawl, but @SamPirok was given contradictory info, and he went back and confirmed our AP's will show up, its posted in this thread some place.  So whatever you have now, will show up and be manageable in the new interface.

BUT, if they update anything on their backend (code, function, etc.) and any/all of your EOSL AP's break, vanish or suddenly cant be managed, they are under NO obligation to fix it, thats 100% on you to sort out.  The advice here - and what Im doing this summer - is to replace those AP's with newer ones.  You dont want to leave it "as is" and have that potential hanging over your head, replace them is your best bet.

Just a comment here: " is to replace those AP's with newer ones.  You dont want to leave it "as is" and have that potential hanging over your head, replace them is your best bet."

Our fiscal year starts in 2 weeks.  Budgets were set for things months ago.  Jumping up and replacing 75 ESOL AP's that are suddenly not on the network is a no-start. We're a small university and simply do not have the flex to pull an elephant like that out of our budget hat.  Yes, they will be replaced but that will take us time.  And, we need that time.

Also, the AP121s and 122 are very useful for "low rent" wifi jobs, like tossing one in a basement to link a water sprinkler control to the cloud and similar simple things with very low bandwidth needs.  Basic needs like a profile update, CLI and reboot shouldn't be that much trouble to carry over to a updated interface.
