The ExtremeCloud™ IQ classic UI will be retired Q4 calendar year 2026. The new UI has been available  since July 2025 to ensure customers have ample time to become comfortable before the classic UI is retired.

We will be transitioning from the classic UI to our modernized new UI which will become the default interface for all ExtremeCloud IQ customers in July 2026. The classic UI will be officially retired in Q4 2026 (before December 31, 2026)

Why is This Transition Needed?

  • ExtremeCloud IQ classic is based on legacy architecture
  • No new features are being added in ExtremeCloud IQ classic
  • All features / capabilities are developed in ExtremeCloud IQ new UI and Extreme Platform ONE

Seamless Transition to ExtremeCloud IQ new

  • Customers will have a new UI and UX to manage their networks with ExtremeCloud IQ new
  • There will be NO IMPACT to customers data / networks / logs / devices
  • Customers will continue to manage and monitor their network as they have been doing prior to the upgrade

What’s Changing

  • ExtremeCloud IQ is transitioning from the classic UI to the new UI experience.
  • This is a user interface update only. The underlying platform, configurations, policies, and data remain unchanged.
  • There are specific features that will not be available in ExtremeCloud IQ’s new user interface based on customer usage or were not working in prior releases
  • There are specific 3rd party switches that will no longer be supported with ExtremeCloud IQ’s new user interface

What’s Not Changing

  • No impact to network operations
  • Same URL and login credentials
  • No configuration, policy, or data loss
  • No licensing or entitlement changes

@DeVoID below the answer produced by Extreme AI Sales Assistant:

ExtremeCloud IQ Connect is the base-level tier of ExtremeCloud IQ. It provides subscription-free cloud management for up to 10 supported devices, enabling organizations to deploy enterprise-grade connectivity with basic network management features. This allows users to manage their network infrastructure without a paid subscription, but with limited functionality compared to higher license tiers like Pilot or CoPilot. Connect is designed for smaller deployments that require essential cloud-based management and monitoring capabilities, but do not need advanced features such as enhanced policy enforcement, advanced troubleshooting, or AI-driven analytics, which are available in the higher tiers 1 .

Please note that ExtremeCloud IQ Connect will be deprecated after Q4 of calendar year 2026. Users will be notified and guided to transition to Extreme Platform ONE subscriptions to continue managing their Extreme Networks devices

@TeleZ Ah gotcha,  Yeah I read it was going away - I didnt know thats what it was called though -, and all the people/companies that use it for 10 or less Access Points will have to buy a subscription. <sigh>.

Thats rough, basically have it for free, and then its taken away.  But thats how it goes.  Get you in the door and once you are in, slam it behind you and your choice is to either accept it and pay, or try and find a cheaper solution.

Remember though, nothing is ever free.  Somehow you were paying for it, they were getting paid.  Probably via data collection, sold as advertising revenue (user stats, sites visited, etc.), something.

Thanks for explaining that.  Sorry its now going to cost you.  Although, maybe look at Ruckus Wireless... I seem to remember they had something for "free"... but no idea if you can use the same AP's across brands.

@SamPirok  -- Hi, I have a few AP50XX universal access points and have been using XIQ-connect to manage and upgrade firmware.

I am OK with managing them on-prem in the future, instead of using cloud management.

My question is - how do I upgrade firmware for my APs in the future. The firmware is only accessible via Extreme portal accounts currently so I cant download those.

Can you pls provide feedback to the product team and make sure users can access to the firmware of their products at least?

Thanks.

@yiyayo Thats the thing though, from what I can tell - others correct me if I'm wrong - is that XIQ Connect is going away. If that goes away, I'd imagine you cant manage your AP's without some kind of subscription (one of their other platforms.... EP1 or XIQ New).

Right?

While firmware can have bug fixes and security updates - and sometimes enhancements - unless its to patch a security vulnerability, its best to stick with whatever stable firmware you have,  Trust me, I was always updating firmware, and had nothing but issues - the quality of the releases are now terrible - and then had to work a lot more to undo that failed updates, only for Extreme to release an "a" or "b" version that would install nicely.  Read through this entire thread and you will see what I mean.  Also under their XIQ >> Firmware section...

Just my 2 cents.

@DeVoID   I plan to manage mine locally using CLI via SSH, instead of XIQ cloud mgmt, after Q4 2026.

I need to have access to the firmware for features / security fixes.

Currently, users cant register an account with Extreme Portal (where firmware is stored) unless they have a company email domain, and proof of purchase via their "official sales channels".  This unnecessarily strict requirement will block many users from keeping their Extreme products updated and secured.

@yiyayo wow, CLI via SSH.. you must really know all the commands.  Well I wonder if you can still interrogate API's.

it might be possible to do an API call, with the API not doing any kind of "checks and balances" at all - its possible -, thus allowing the API connection from the API gateway to the AP with the firmware.

Just sayin'

Also, ive seen people post here asking for firmware, often following up with a "thanks", so some of the time they must get it via forum posts.

Again though, unless its to plug a security hole, updating firmware is a waste of resources.  Especially with the poor quality of them lately - making AP's unreachable, "failed to update" messages, breaking other features, introducing more bugs, etc.  Find out what the "Gold" version is for your AP model, and stick with it.

One reason I love Tech

"I plan to manage mine locally using CLI via SSH, instead of XIQ..."

Since my IFR uses BGP to talk to AT&T imma use WinSCP with a VPN got get through my ASAs to fire up a CLI to get around XIQ to FTP my CFG updates to that old AP121.....

@ckelly1 @DeVoID  - Forgot to mention, my use case is home lab. If I travel, I can access my LAN via WireGuard.  With commercial deployment - yes I agree it might be a PITA to access via SSH.

For CLI commands - I disabled capwap, removed the APs from XIQ, then saved running config to bootstrap.

@ckelly1 hahahahah and we thought that cybersecurity had a lot of acronyms!  LOL.. Thanks for the laugh...

@yiyayo Oh... Then it doesnt "touch" you when they shut it down, given you removed them and bootstraped them.  Its all about the firmware.... ok.

Again, Under their firmware page - within this community hub - ask which version is the gold version for your particular AP, and then just stick with that version.  The only caveat is, be sure to have subscribed to any post about firmware being released due to a 0-day's or security vulnerabilities, and then deal with trying to get the firmware at that time.

I used to stay on top of every release of their firmware for all my AP's, but for an entire year (maybe a bit more), there have been nothing but quality issues with each release which caused all kinds of issues - mentioned in previous posts above - and they would have to release an "a" or "b" version of the same which would fix the issues - but fixing what they broke via the firmware took quite a bit of time and all the while the AP's are down, lots of calls and emails from people needing to connect to wifi - .  Now I find which of the latest versions is the gold version and I only upgrade when a "new" gold version becomes available - unless one is released for security/vulnerability reasons and only then will I install it.

DeVoiD

PS: Oh, and here is a link to the API's I was talking about https://developer.extremeplatformone.com/. I bet you can create either scripts or a simple local webpage to pull in data via their API's.... well... maybe....

In EP1 when I go to Monitoring - Clients - Wireless - and search for a specific client MAC address it shows not found. When I go to the XIQ classic I can search for the client and find it and see it last connected 42 days ago and see the client trail from March 9th - April 23rd.

Is there a way to see this in EP1 that I'm missing? If not how far back will EP1 show clients?
