Summary

Hierarchical IQ (HIQ) is an account (VIQ) type in ExtremeCloud IQ (XIQ) used across customer environments. Extreme Networks will end customer access to HIQ on or after July 12, 2026.

After the access cutoff, HIQ accounts will no longer be available, and all associated data will be decommissioned. Customers currently using HIQ accounts must complete migration to dedicated accounts on ExtremeCloud IQ (XIQ) or Extreme Platform ONE before the access cutoff to avoid service interruption and potential data loss.

Background

Hierarchical IQ (HIQ) is an account (VIQ) type in ExtremeCloud IQ (XIQ). Extreme Networks has been supporting customers in migrating from HIQ accounts to Extreme Platform ONE as part of the broader platform transition.

HIQ accounts have reached end-of-development and will now reach end-of-access. No further patches, updates, or feature enhancements will be made available for HIQ accounts. Extreme Platform ONE offers a migration path for customers currently using HIQ, along with significant new functionality including:

  • Unified device lifecycle management for APs, switches, and routers
  • AI-driven network insights and anomaly detection
  • Role-based access control (RBAC) and enterprise-grade IAM
  • REST API, webhooks, and third-party integrations
  • Modern dashboard with real-time visibility and alerting

Impact

⚠ Customers who have not migrated by July 12, 2026, will lose access to their network management configuration, historical data, and device associations without recovery.

Products Affected

  • Hierarchical IQ (HIQ) accounts, an account (VIQ) type in ExtremeCloud IQ (XIQ), across all customer tenants
  • Any devices managed exclusively through HIQ accounts
  • APIs, integrations, and automation workflows that depend on HIQ accounts
  • Reporting and analytics dashboards tied to HIQ accounts

Solution

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What happens to my HIQ data after July 12, 2026?

A: All data stored in HIQ will be permanently decommissioned following the access cutoff. Extreme Networks strongly recommends exporting all configuration data, device inventories, reports, and logs before the deadline.

Q: Will my devices stop working if I don't migrate?

A: Devices that are actively managed by HIQ will lose cloud management capability but will continue to operate based on their last-known configuration. However, you will be unable to make configuration changes, monitor device health, or receive alerts until devices are onboarded to XIQ or Extreme Platform ONE.

Q: What happens to my onboarded devices?

A: After HIQ is decommissioned, devices previously onboarded in your HIQ tenant may still appear as already onboarded. If those records are not cleared, you may not be able to onboard the devices to your new XIQ or Extreme Platform ONE tenant.

Q: How long does it take to migrate?

A: Migration duration depends on the number of HIQ organizations and the total device count in your environment. Each organization must be migrated individually. Small deployments with a single organization can typically be completed in one maintenance window. Larger, multi-organization environments may require a phased approach over several days to weeks.
