When enabling AX Radio profile with BSS Coloring a numerical metric is entered per profile.

Ie. 1-64 BSS Coloring combined with spatial reuse operation can use adaptive CCA thresholds enabling transmits on inter-BSS transmissions.

Assuming the unique color is per radio and configured in a radio profile does this mean the system allocates a color/number to each WAP radio?

Hi Brent,

Please let me know if that clarifies or not. Please see the radio profile setting:

Radio Profiles are assigned per AP radio. If this is assigned to an AP radio then all ‘SSIDs’ on that particular AP will use that BSS Color ID. This is per-radio adjustment, not per-SSID adjustment.

Hope that helps,

Tomasz

Nice summary - but the question is how? I’m sure there’s a radio profile plan or is this really just stating that the profile is ‘trusted’ ie. has an assigned ID (bss number) and so other ssids using that same channel are now clearly defined?

Hi Brent,

You are able to specify BSS Color with 11ax. This parameter is included in 11ax transmission headers and it allows hopefully to optimize channel utilization a bit. When two distant APs talk on the same channel, devices connected to one AP that can hear the far AP on the same channel (with RSSI higher than few dB above a noise floor), they have to defer their transmission according to CSMA/CA. With BSS Coloring, it is assumed that 11ax device might ignore frames on the same channel from far AP-related transmission on the same channel but with different BSS color and proceed with transmission. It is assumed that the AP a device is connected to has much stronger signal and it should not make a problem to keep the conversation running at the moment. OTOH, my personal concern is that from a channel reuse plan issue we go into channel reuse plan + BSS color reuse plan issues at a design phase.

In XIQ, a radio profile is for either 2.4 GHz or 5 Ghz radio. So when you create and assign a radio profile with BSS Coloring enabled, it will be enabled for the radio with such profile AFAIU.

Hope that helps,

Tomasz
