Are Enterasys GVRP and XOS MVRP compatible?

We used C5 Enterasys Switches (Edge) and S-Series (Core) in our network. To provide VLANs automatically to the switches we are using GVRP. Now we are getting new X450-G2 with XOS.

Is it possible that i can connect X450-G2 to the S-Series and let provide the VLANs via GVRP ? At XOS this feature are called MVRP. Are both protocols compatible?

Does anybody tried this before ? Does this make sense or is this inadvisable ?

Regards

All,
after some additional analyzing that topic,

we updated the Statement about the MVRP and GVRP use in an network.

There is at least some truth that the both protocols are not compatible.

However,
They can be used in the same network environment as long as the protocols configured on each end of a given link are the same.

Is it possible to configure a s-series as translator/proxy/gateway between gvrp and mvrp?
This would be helpful when you have legacy eos network with gvrp and you begin to move to xos.

Mike mention: "MVRP and GVRP are not compatible and should not be used in the same network environment."

So i would not do it!

Hello Matthias,

MVRP and GVRP are not compatible. While MVRP replaces GVRP, there are significant operational differences and the two should not be run in the same network.
