VSP and ERS Network challenge

VSP and ERS Network challenge

Hello,

so i have a VSP from which i have setup a few VLANs onto stacked ERSs on a number of floors, i can reach all switches on the network and almost all the VLANs are fine; but i have two main issues:

  1. The IPTv VLAN has been acting up lately; the server has been connected to a port on a dedicated ERSs switch having the same VLAN. A few days ago, i noticed only the TV connected to that same switch is working fine while the rest can’t communicate with the server; the client called lastnight to mention it was back to normal only to call again this morning that TVs are no longer communicating.
  2. I have also noticed all the lights on the switches are blinking really fast especially the fiber uplink ones some of which are even amber in color.

Given that all your TV  clients are on the same vlan, so multicast routing is not required I would remove all multicast config.  The switch will flood multicast packets within the vlan and everything should work.

If it does not work in this mode, then you can start looking for duplicate IPs etc. in the switch logs as suggested earlier.

Good luck.

Klenan,

Could you share a config from an ERS from the xth Floor and from the ERS hosting one of the multicast server?

What is important is the section igmp

  • show running-config module igmp
  • show ip igmp interface vlan 40
  • show ip igmp interface vlan 50
  • show ip igmp group
  • show ip igmp cache

On the VSP:

  • show ip igmp access
  • show ip igmp group
  • show ip igmp interface
  • show ip igmp mrdisc
  • show ip igmp snooping

  1. all the multicast clients and servers are on the same VLAN - Two separate VLANs 40(IPTV) and 50(CCTV - No issues)
  1. The multicast VLAN is stretched on all the switches - Yes
  1. The multicast server is the IPTV server and CCTV server - Two separate servers feeding into two different VLANs
