Upgrading from EXOS 16.1.x to 31.7.x is a significant version jump, so I'd recommend avoiding a direct upgrade unless the release notes explicitly confirm it's supported. Check the release notes for both 31.7.4.2 and any intermediate long-term releases to verify the required upgrade path and bootloader requirements. If the documentation isn't clear, opening a support case with the vendor is the safest approach, as they can provide the officially supported migration path for the X670-G2 platform. Hopefully someone who has already completed this exact upgrade can share their experience as well. TikTokio

Hi,

Since the source version is very old and Extreme has removed older versions (without clearly explaining why), the best approach might be to use a Rescue Image with the latest version.
One reason for this —regardless of the availability of intermediate versions— is the change in default parameters between major versions. Typically, an incremental update preserves the original settings.
After updating the version, you would re-apply the current configuration (after performing a backup).
The maintenance window tends to be longer with this procedure, and it is highly recommended to perform it on-site, near the equipment.

If you have a spare unit, I would run the process on that first to familiarize yourself with the procedure and verify that the current configurations remain compatible.
