Hi Guys,
I’m reading the release notes of the new 31.1.1.3 firmware version right now and saw the new fast poe feature. I’m wondering: are there any disadvantages of enabling this on all ports or can that safely be done?
Which lead to asking myself: is it possible to find more information on specific topics like the above?
Another example: on VSP switches slpp on lacp ports is not supported according to the documentation. nothing about which kind of “not supported”. what is not supported? lacp and slpp mixed on a system, or only the rx part, while just generating slpp packets is ok?
One more example is vlan statistic monitoring. are there any downsides to enabling this for all vlans? will the system slow down considerably or not at all after enabling this?
How do you go about getting more information for a specific topic?

Hi,
That limitation looks to be unique to VOSS and as far as I can tell does not apply to EXOS.
Regarding the vlan statistics that does use ACL resources but that should be done in hardware. You can tell by running the “show access-list usage acl-slice port <port #>” command:
This is the output before running “configure ports all monitor vlan data” on my switch:
show access-list usage acl-slice port 1

sorry didn’t specify, i was talking about smlt with lacp and slpp. i found it here:
which states:
The switch does not support SLPP in an SMLT that uses LACP.
vlan statistics: my x440-g2 switches do support some kind of vlan specific statistics:
after enabling with:
configure ports all monitor vlan default
i can see them with
show vlan statistics default
but im not sure if its a good idea to enable it by default on all my switches or if this may be resource intensive.

Hi,
The user guide is usually a good starting point for these topics which can be found here:
https://documentation.extremenetworks.com/exos_31.1/GUID-7D648968-51CD-4E05-828C-8606BD5C0474.shtml
Regarding SLPP I see these limitations listed:
Limitations
• SNMP for SLPP Guard is not supported.
• The SLPP Guard active state per port is limited by the number of available ACL filters.
Where are you seeing the other limitations, regarding LACP and SLPP?
Here are some notes regarding VLAN statistics. I will see if I can find anything regarding your exact question):
The ExtremeSwitching X435 series switches do not support VLAN statistics.
Guidelines and Limitations
The following describes guidelines for this feature.
• Support for VMAN statistics are provided in the same manner as VLAN statistics. CLI commands use
the same syntax as used with monitoring VLANs including the use of the vlan keyword in CLI
commands. SNMP access uses the same MIB objects as used for VLAN statistics.
Statistics for VLANs encapsulated within VMANs are not supported.
• ExtremeSwitching series switches provide support only for byte counters.
• All of the counters supported are 64 bit counters. No indication of counter rollover is supported.
• Packets originating from the switch's CPU or forwarded by the CPU may not be reflected in transmit
statistics.
Here is the blurb on fast poe:
PoE optimization options:
◦ Fast—Specifies showing fast PoE power status, which is the ability to provide power to devices
at the time of switch power on without waiting for boot up based on last saved PoE state.
◦ Perpetual—Specifies showing perpetual PoE power status, which is the ability to preserve PoE
power delivery to devices during reboot. Perpetual PoE is a switch-wide setting.
Thanks,
