Hello everyone!

I need for your experience and assistance.

I have two Extrme Switch lets say x450 and I need to measure the frame delay , loss and jitter between the two switch for telephone lines. After I will have to implement it to netsight to create diagram and prepare measurement report.

I found some solutions on the internet like CFM domain and segment config what is use Y.1731 standard, but could someone give me an example solution and tell me how is it working ?

Thanks so much for your reply.

Regards

Trying to use the built in CFM and y.1731 abilities in the EXOS switches will not work very well....

First this is not built in to a hardware chip so it is 100% software so you will see time drifts that are false. You are attempting to measure small slices of time and have no synced clocks between the switches and the cpu's when they are busy will skip or add latency that is not there.

There is not a mib to poll the results of you CFM instances if you do build then only on the 450's so you are forced to attempt to write a script and pull info out ...

We run a large metro network using Extreme for services and core on top of DWDM optical links. When we are required to deliver reports for sla compliance we use a NID on both sides the has CFM and Y.1731 built in hardware with snmp mibs to pull the results into out traffic graphing customer portal...

If you are only trying to prove the network is Voip capable then there are stand alone test solutions for that. Many SIP handsets and servers also have options for quality reporting and generating MSO scores for you VOIP services.

Not sure if any of the other switch or product lines that Extreme has bought over the last few years support what you are trying to do as we only use EXOS pure purple Extreme gear...
