All switches have a max of 8 nodes in a stack.

No, you must power down the switch to swap the modules.

haha, I don't think it will blow up, but it might be pretty grumpy 🙂
There is risk to hardware and in the lab, I've seen switches reboot themselves when not powered off during a module swap.
