Extreme Networks AP for Home Network

Extreme Networks AP for Home Network

It appears that back in 2018 before Aerohive acquisition by Extreme Networks, it was at least tolerable for the equipment to be used in home networks (see legacy post @maxtaylor106 ).  Why is this no longer the case?  (I'd like to use an AP310i in router mode, but...)

Thanks

the 310i is not a cloud enabled AP.    TTBOMK it will only run in Controller mode or Wing mode.

see bottom left hand corner of the factsheets.

Thanks.  I did see the datasheet, but thought web UI configuration was also possible, which didn't work for my unit using the "zero-config IP."  But AP reference guide for WiNG 7.9.4.0 states AP310 is included, and p41 recommends using Router Mode for single-AP deployment.  So that implied it might work.  (I can use in either mode, but just AP adds an edge router.)

The crux:

  • WiNG is required to config AP;
  • Portal account is required for software (WiNG, etc.) and firmware updates;
  • Portal account requires corporation affiliation (which I do not have);
  • Hence the original question...

I wanted more capable hardware that was less subject to CVE and other problems of typical SOHO units. 🤔
