broadcast disassociation

Hi,

in APs Advanged Featureset it is possible to turn on "broadcast disassociation". But i do not know what this will do!

In the manual i can read the following sentence: "the Wireless AP to use broadcast disassociation when disconnecting all clients, instead of disassociating each client one by one".

But i cannot estimate is this good or bad ?

Does every WLAN Client understand a disassociate via broadcast ? is this better or faster then a normal disassociate ? Is it advisable to use this feature ?

It will be nice if we can clarify that.

thanks for discussing this.

Because i think twice about how disassociation within WLAN works and how easy it is to leave or to be cut off from WLAN it is more and more important to safe this up with some secuirty mechanisms. With EWC 9.21 802.11w "Management Frame Protection" will help.

I see now that it is very important to use this on the produtive SSIDs.

I would just leave it disabled. It is very rarely that you will hit the conditions above that would cause the broadcast disassociation frames.

is it right there are no cons or disadvantages if i enable this feature ?!

The benefit of this feature is that with only one broadcast packet all client are disassociated which speed up that task. Right ?

Yes clients do understand broadcast disassociation frames. The reason you would use these are as follows:

Select this option if you want the AP to use broadcast disassociation when disconnecting all clients, instead of disassociating each client one by one. This affects the behavior of the AP under the following conditions:

• If the AP is preparing to reboot or to enter one of the special modes (DRM initial channel selection).
• If a BSSID is deactivated or removed on the AP.

This option is disabled by default.
