Products
Enterasys (formerly HiPath) Wireless Controller (EWC)
C20, C25, C4110, C5110, V2110; firmware 8.11.01.0161 and higher
Legacy Wireless Access Points (APs)
RBT-4102, RBT-4102-EU, AP26xx

Symptoms
Legacy APs are showing no radio activity, though each such unit has both radios administratively enabled.

The EWC's log contains "There is at least one policy with more than 32 AP filter rules" messages logged during the boot phase; for example:Dec 18 18:40:35 C4110 events: Config Manager has experienced an error
which has prevented it from properly processing a request. CM will
continue running, however this error may be an indicator of a larger
system problem. Error Details:There is at least one policy with more
than 32 AP filter rules. AP [0002000630007021] doesn't support it, VNS
config is not sent. Config is ignoredCause
The maximum number of "@AP" Filtering Rules has been increased to 64 for all non-legacy AP36xx and AP37xx APs. However, the limit remains at 32 for legacy RBT-4102 and AP26xx APs. If a policy contains more than 32 filtering rules and is associated with a VNS enabled to include legacy APs, then that VNS configuration is not pushed to legacy APs and the above-stated error message is logged for each such AP.

Solution/Workaround
Functions as Designed (FAD).

Workarounds:
  • Upgrade the legacy APs to newer AP models. -or-
  • Modify the policy so there are 32 or fewer rules configured. -or-
  • Create a new policy designed for the legacy APs, and tie the policy to a WLAN Service and VNS created for the legacy APs. As desired these may use the same SSID as the newer APs, and they may be tied to the same topology. The only difference will be the Radio WLAN assignment between the two types of APs.
