Solution
To clear to factory defaults, use any of these four procedures.
To reset the admin password (this will actually clear all passwords), use only the last procedure (toggle dip switch .

• This procedure assumes that you have access to cli management: In the cli, issue the following command: DFE(rw)->clear config all The entire system will reboot. Its NVRAM-based configuration, including the IP address and default route, will be at default values. Note: For systems in a 6C105 (5275), in lieu of the "all" parameter you can specify a slot number. Because in a 6C107 or 7C107 chassis a cleared slot would merely re-inherit its configuration from the other DFE modules , the "all" subparameter is generally used for a more durable clear action.
• This procedure assumes that you are using a 6C107 or 7C107 chassis, and don't mind slot or chassis swapping: Use the Functions as Designed functionality as described in 5037 to build a fresh DFE system after clearing the configurations on the first module in the system.
• This procedure assumes that you are locked out of management, but have serial access: [list=1]
• Pull the DFE modules off the backplane (5036).
• Select one of the modules.
• With a serial console attachment in place, reinsert the module.
• A boot sequence similar to the following will display: Boot ROM Initialization, Version 01.00.01 Copyright (c) 2004 Enterasys Networks, Inc. SDRAM size: 128 MB Testing SDRAM.... PASSED. Loading Boot Image: 01.00.02... DONE. Uncompressing Boot Image... DONE. Press any key to enter System Image Loader menu
• Before the boot-up completes, press any key (the space bar works fine).
• The available options will display, including "10 - Restore Configuration to factory defaults (delete config files)".
• Type and enter the number 10.
• Allow the module to fully boot. Its NVRAM-based configuration will be at default values, and no .cfg files will be viewable in a 'dir' command output.
• Reinsert the remaining blades, in their original slots (5036). They will inherit the defaulted configuration.

Note: For systems in a 6C105 (5275), instead merely pull the DFE module off the backplane and perform steps 2-8.

This procedure assumes that you are locked out of management:

1. Pull the DFE blades off the backplane (5036).
2. Select one of the blades.
3. Using anti-static precautions, toggle that blade's dip switch bank switch 7 (flip it to the opposite position). To just enable the admin account and reset its password to default value, toggle switch 8 instead of 7. If you cannot locate the dip switch bank, consult the Installation Guide for your specific blade model.
4. Reinsert that one blade, allowing it to fully boot. Its configuration will be at default values if switch 7 was toggled, and in its previous form (less defaulted passwords) if switch 8 was toggled.
5. Reinsert the remaining blades, in their original slots (5036). They will inherit the defaulted configuration.

Note: For systems in a 6C105 (5275), instead merely pull the DFE module off the backplane and perform steps 2-4. As desired, log in to the DFE System (5210) and reconfigure.

If you had previously saved the configuration using a 'show config outfile' command, reconfiguring could be as simple as issuing a 'configure' command referencing the saved configuration file (5035).
