Setting up inter-vlan multicast routing?

Setting up inter-vlan multicast routing?

Not applicable
I'm trying to setup multicasting so I can run a multicast installation of Windows 7 from Windows Deployment Services. I have two Enterasys switches/routers in between the windows server and the client machines that need to be imaged. I've already run interface vlan 1, then ip igmp enable, which seems to have caused our igmp group table to start populating with odd devices on the network that must have always been sending multicast packets. The thing is, the machines that need to be imaged are on vlan 16. Do I only need to run this command on vlan 16 to complete the configuration and get multicasting working from point A to B, or is there another step something to "bridge the gap"?

Hi tgp1994,

Can you let us know what types of switches you're using? The configuration that Andre described should be working. Perhaps an example config as well?

Thanks!

Hi Tyler,

I apologize for the late response, but I'm coming back to this after getting a bit of a break with the type of work that needed to be completed yesterday.

I read over the previously linked to PDF a little more closely and talked with one of our network engineers; it sounds like they purchased some licenses awhile ago (one which may have been the aforementioned advanced routing license), so he was going to look into activating our router.

Otherwise, I think we'll just be using the same VLAN.

Thanks!

Thanks for your responses guys, I guess we're a little mystified here. One of our network engineers put a port on one of the switches to the server's vlan, although the application I've been using to test multicast (Microsoft's mcast.exe utility) still doesn't work. I know it's hard to be a messenger here when you're trying to go back and forth between the two parties for support, so I'm not sure if we may just find alternatives for getting these laptops imaged with WDS.

Hi Glen, I am going to consult with an expert here and see what answers we can get you to help.
